Ask R U OK? Any Day

The food is the excuse. The conversation is the point.

R U OK? Day 2026 falls on Thursday 10 September, and this year the charity's message is Ask R U OK? Any Day — because the people around us have hard weeks in March and in July too.

Their 2026 research found that 9 in 10 people who were asked “are you OK?” came away feeling grateful, cared about and supported. It also found 1 in 4 of us hold back from asking, even when we can tell something is off.

Closing that gap is what a morning tea is actually for. Almost nobody opens a hard conversation across a desk. They open it standing next to someone, holding a coffee, waiting on the scones.

Inclusive menus, made in Brisbane

Vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options are marked on every product, all handmade in our Fortitude Valley kitchen.

Our kitchen also handles nuts, sesame, egg, dairy and seafood, so we can't guarantee any item is free from traces. If someone on your team has a serious allergy, please call us on (07) 3188 6012 before you order — full allergy notice here.

The food isn't really the point. It's the reason people leave their desks and stand next to each other for twenty minutes. R U OK? publish free conversation guides, posters and an editable presentation at ruok.org.au/work — order the food from us, print those, and you've run the day properly.

Before the day

Ask, listen, encourage action, check in

R U OK? publish a four-step guide to the conversation itself. It is worth reading the week before, not on the morning.

  • Ask. Be relaxed and be specific. “You've seemed quiet this month, how are you going?” lands better than “you right?”
  • Listen. Without jumping to fix it. Say back what you heard, in your own words, so they know it actually went in.
  • Encourage action. Ask what has helped before, and what they could do for themselves this week. If they have been low for more than a fortnight, suggest they talk to a professional.
  • Check in. Put a reminder in your phone for a fortnight's time. This is the step nearly everyone skips.

The full guide, the posters and the workplace pack are free at ruok.org.au/how-to-ask. Print those; we'll bring the food.
